Park City, Utah 2011

We arrived at the airport barely on time.  Waited with growing anxiety that we wouldn't make it as David took his time to meet us, under the false impression that our flight was late, and that in general, airplanes are unreliable.  We made it in time, and as it turns out, all my anxiety was for nothing.  We waited. Maybe David is onto something here.

We ran into a couple friends at the airport, made plans to hang out with them and see movies once we arrived.  This of course never happened. We saw each other in passing, texted that we should meet up, but never did.  I should have skied, gone sledding, and took more advantage of the films, less of the parties.  Although I am generally the first person to jump into any party situation possible, I really wish I had seen more films.  I saw about 2-3 a day, which is far better than last time I went a few years ago.  If I recall correctly, I saw one film in 5 days.  This time it was more like 10 over the 5 days.  I will get better. I promise, myself that is.

There was a lot of hustling to get into films we didn't have tickets to, all the while there were empty seats waiting for us at Slamdance.  In comparison to the desperate failure of Sundance, having access to any film we wanted at Slamdance was a delightful oasis.  This realization only came to David and I after we had wasted our first full afternoon waiting in line, teased by the smell of buttered popcorn in the air and promise of sitting next to my new favorite director or someone at least noteworthy.

The disappointment of being turned away from films that I had gotten excited about seeing required immediate sedation, thus the party hustle began.  Thankfully, there was someone in our group that was far more social than David and me, that would be Slater.

Slater proved a valuable asset on our trip, as he was constantly keeping in touch with people about what parties were happening, and where.  The parties themselves were underwhelming.  The real amusement was watching Slater charm his way into any venue he pleased.  I've decided that in any future adventures requiring 'status' to move around freely, I will invite Slater along.  It was truly amazing to listen to the lengths he would go to get us into any event.  I was ashamed to call myself a Producer, cause Slater was outshining me re: producing in Park City.

More details and stories to come....
